The Carlsbad Community Foundation is pleased to invite South Eddy County organizations that promote the well-being of animals, domestic and wild, to apply for a grant from the Benjamin P. Duke Memorial Endowment Fund.

Eligibility – 501(c)(3) and other charitable organizations that are located in or serve South Eddy County in New Mexico, which includes Carlsbad, Loving, Otis, Malaga, and Queen.

Purpose – Funds to be awarded must promote the well-being of animals, domestic or wild. No other purposes will be considered.

Grant amounts – The number of grant awards and amounts awarded may vary depending on the number of applications and needs. Grant awards have typically ranged from $500 to $15,000. All requests should be thoroughly justified in the grant application for consideration.

Schedule – The online grant application will be available below on this page beginning April 1, 2026. The deadline to complete the online grant application is April 30, 2026. Late applications will not be considered. Successful applicants will be notified by June 30, 2026 and fund distribution is anticipated to start in July 2026.

Reporting/Legal Requirements – Grants awarded are RESTRICTED funds and therefore a follow-up report and documentation will be required following the use of the funds to demonstrate appropriate use of charitable dollars for the purposes requested. Failure to file a follow-up report as outlined in award letters will require a return of the full grant amount to the Foundation and recipient may be subject to civil or criminal penalties.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Applicants are required to agree to the following Terms and Conditions before proceeding:

    • The purpose of the organization’s application is to benefit animals, domestic or wild, in South Eddy County, New Mexico
    • Grants awarded are RESTRICTED funds that must be used for the charitable purposes outlined in the grant application, subject to any additional restrictions at the time of award
    • An online follow-up report is REQUIRED of recipients after the funds are used, but no later than April 30, 2027, unless otherwise approved in writing by the Foundation.  If not received as required, the funds must be returned in full to the Foundation.  Recipients may also be subject to civil or criminal penalties.
Applicant, co-applicant and organization agree to the terms and conditions listed above.

Organizational Information

If your organization received a 2025 Benjamin P. Duke Memorial Grant, you must complete the required follow-up report prior to submitting your 2026 application.  The link may be found in your grant award letter.
